Nigeria Police Unveils 25 Gunboats, Appoints New Force Marine Officer

The Nigeria Police Force is set to launch 25 newly acquired gunboats, as part of its efforts to bolster internal security and respond swiftly to violent crimes in the country’s marine environment. This strategic move was announced by the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, who also appointed CSP Chima Ogarashi as the new Force Marine Officer (FMO).

According to Egbetokun, the appointment of FMO and the acquisition of gunboats are aimed at improving security and combating crime along the inland waterways. The IGP emphasized that these initiatives are part of the Police Force’s commitment to ensuring the safety of lives and property, as well as fostering confidence in maritime safety.

CSP Chima Ogarashi, the new FMO, will oversee one of the critical sections of the Force, leveraging his experience in maritime security, policing, and enforcement of maritime laws. The appointment of Ogarashi and the acquisition of gunboats are seen as a proactive approach by the Nigeria Police to address security challenges in the country’s marine environment.

The Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, stated that the Police Force remains steadfast in its mission to create a safe and more secure environment for all citizens. The IGP reassured members of the public of the Police Force’s commitment to responding effectively to any security threats.
