In a landmark move to enhance healthcare accessibility, the Obawole Primary Health Care Centre (PHC) in Ifako-Ijaiye has been officially upgraded to a 24-hour service facility. This project, spearheaded by the Executive Chairman of Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government, Prince Usman Akanbi Hamzat (UAH), was commissioned earlier today.
The upgrade is a testament to the administration’s commitment to providing affordable and quality healthcare to residents. Representing Prince Hamzat at the event, Vice-Chairman Hon. Mrs. Oluwatoyin Awoniyi-Akerele emphasized the Chairman’s dedication to grassroots governance.
“Our resolve to leave no stone unturned in delivering quality healthcare reflects our unwavering commitment to the well-being of Ifako-Ijaiye’s residents,” she stated.
The facility’s upgrade aligns with the Lagos State Government’s broader agenda to strengthen primary healthcare systems, ensuring round-the-clock access to critical medical services. Dr. Mrs. Olufunmilayo Bankole, Permanent Secretary of Lagos Health District 1, highlighted the significance of nonstop healthcare during her keynote address.
“This initiative will address emergencies and chronic conditions more effectively, significantly improving the health outcomes of our community,” she noted.
The upgraded facility boasts extended operational hours, modern medical equipment, and improved infrastructure, including wheelchair accessibility and enhanced sanitation facilities. Community leaders and beneficiaries have hailed the project as a transformative milestone, praising Prince Hamzat’s leadership and commitment to the community’s well-being.
Pastor Opajobi, Chairman of the Community Development Committee (CDC), praised Prince Hamzat’s leadership, calling the upgrade “a product of his doggedness and love for the people.” Chief Anishere Sanni, a local beneficiary, expressed gratitude, stating, “This proactive effort ensures no one is left behind, even during emergencies at odd hours.”
The Obawole PHC upgrade forms part of Prince Hamzat’s broader HEEDS Agenda (Healthcare, Education, Empowerment, Development, and Sports), which has driven numerous grassroots projects in Ifako-Ijaiye. These initiatives include road construction, free health outreach programs, and staff welfare initiatives.
As the ceremony concluded, Hon. Mrs. Awoniyi-Akerele affirmed, “This facility is not just a building—it is a lifeline for our community.”
This development signals a new era of accessible healthcare in Ifako-Ijaiye, reinforcing Lagos State’s vision for a robust primary healthcare network.
