The Lagos State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), has set the ball rolling by commissioning a Female Squad to combat crimes.
Point News247 reports that the Commandant General, Ahmed Abubakar Audi, had given a directive that ‘Female Squads,’ should be established through out the State Commands of the Corps, in the nation, designed under the ‘School Safety Initiative’.
The Lagos State Commandant, Eweka Edenabu Douglas Okoro, said the initiative was to eradicate the criminal cases of kidnapping, cultism, bullying, rape and gangsterism being perpetrated amongst school children.
The new female strike force of the Command was launched on Thursday, 27th January, 2022 at the State Command Headquarters, in Alausa Ikeja, Lagos.
In his words; the ‘Female Squad’ is a strike force saddled with specific roles to combat nefarious activities in our schools amongst our school children as itemised above. The Squad is also expected to carry out awareness campaign against such nefarious activities being perpetrated by school students against their peers and by criminals against school children and their tutors in our society today amidst others .
The NSCDC Lagos State Command, Female Squad numbering twenty eight (28) are well trained arms carrying personnel, who have been carefully selected from various divisions, units and departments across the State Command to be embeded in the special Squad having gone through fresh, tactical, psychological, intellectual, dogged, rugged and rigorous training for a period of six weeks( 6 weeks ), to combat the insecurity menace in our schools .
The Passing Out Parade, of the Female Squad, which was anchored by the Public Relations Officer of the Command, ASCI Abolurin Oluwaseun Olumide, also featured several special presentations such as Silent drill, Asper crash parade, strippling and assembling and practical anti – kidnapping operation demonstration, all performed by the Female Squad at the event.
The Passing Out Parade was well attended by the Zonal Commander, Zone A Lagos, Assistant Commandant General( ACG) Olasupo Adebayo Solomon Phd, MCIA, Dr. Abdulrazaq Balogun, Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer, Lagos State Security Trust Fund, Mrs Funmilayo Opesanwo Regional Coordinator, National Identity Management Commission( NIMC) and the representatives of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Nigeria Immigration Service, Nigeria Correctional Service and the Federal Fire Service, in the state. The event was also graced by Dr. (chief) Bode Aro – Lambo, Deputy President, Eagles Crime Awareness Prevention Initiative (ECAPI) and members of the media.
Finally, Commandant Eweka Okoro avows his unflinching commitment to eradicate insecurity challenges such as kidnapping of school children, cultism, bullying, rape and gangsterism amidst other nefarious acts in our schools and amongst our school children in the state. He also asked “the public to cooperate with the Squad to deliver on their assigned mandate, while charging them to see something and say something timely.”
The Commandant also seized the occasion to call on the Government of Lagos State to continue to support the Command to achieve more as the Command is poised towards doing a great job with the brand new Squad and its tactical and operational teams to further reduce the insecurity challenges in the state to its barest minimum. The Squad has also been charged to remain civil in their style of operation and be guided by the Corps’ code of conduct and standard operating procedure while discharging their duties professionally.
