In a bid to spread love during the holy season of Ramadan, a socio-political group, Sanwo-Olu Babes, has empowered over 450 widows in Lagos state.
Point News247 reports that the charitable act was extended to the widows, in order to contribute positively to their well-being and appreciate their participation, as patriotic citizens during electioneering period.
Coordinator of the group, Mrs Oluwafunmilayo Adedayo, who disclosed this at the Lawma Simpson office Sura, Lagos Island disclosed that empowering widows should be the priority of every responsible government, enjoining the Lagos State Governor not to rest on his oars and mandate of inclusive governance.
In her words; “Today, we are empowering 450 widows with food stuff and a cash gift of 10,000. Our widows have been dogged, regardless of their status, they come out in mass to vote during elections. Both young and old widows exercise their franchise. it is necessary for us to appreciate them in our little way”,
“We implore Governor Sanwo-olu to continue to recognize them, we thank him for all the empowerment programmes he had done for widows, we are encouraging him to do more as we wish him the best in his second term ambition. Therefore, I will like to urge all our widows to continue to be consistent in exercising their civic duties.” she stressed.
The Managing Director/ CEO of Lagos Waste Management Authority, Mr. Ibrahim Odumboni, described the initiative as well encompassing Ramadan empowerment.
He said: “It is important to support women to sustain their day to day living. This is a very good empowerment for all widows across the state. The Lagos state government is ensuring everyone is well looked after, this gesture is highly commendable”.
” I want to use this opportunity to enjoin you that your PVC is our power, endeavor to go out and vote during elections, it is our collective responsibility to vote the right candidate to actualize our dreams”.
Governor Babajide Sanwoolu’s elder brother, Mr. Adebayo Sanwo-Olu expressed optimism that the incumbent administration will do more on women and widows empowerment.
“This event is to appreciate the widows that come out to vote for our party, APC. There are 450 widows empowered today, between 60 years and above. Last week, we reached out to the 57 local councils for Ramadan and Easter, as this is a time to show love.’’ he said.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, a petty trader, Mrs Omobemi Adam and Mrs. Funmilola Adediran thanked the organisers for bestowing gifts on them, which would go a long way in supporting their families, she therefore wished the Governor well in his second term bid.
