Suspected thugs on Friday evening invaded, invaded a court of Appeal in Benin City, Edo State capital, chased away court workers and carted away several documents.

Reports says lawyers had approached the court to seek for redress following a judgment of the State High Court on issues pertaining the crisis rocking the Peoples’ Democratic Party in Edo State.

A lawyer who was in court when the incident happened said himself and some of his colleagues were compiling their records for possible transmission when the thugs invaded the court room.

The lawyer who chose to be anonymous for security reasons said the thugs were accompanied by uniformed men who stormed the court and chased away the staff, carting away vital documents.

The lawyer said, “One of my staff was carried away in their bus because she refused to surrender the documents with her to the suspected thugs. She had to release the documents to save her life.”

Condemning the act, the chairman, Benin Branch of the Nigerian Bar Association, Pius Oiwoh, said, “I heard it too. We condemn the invasion in its entirety. We see it as an affront against the sanctity of the judiciary and we are not pleased at all.

“We are disturbed by it. We call on the security agencies to unmask those behind it. The judiciary is sacred and should not be invaded the way it has been so done.”
