The gender desk officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps(NSCDC), were inducted as Associates Members of the International Academy for Gender and Peace (AIAGP). This was the climax of the 3 – Day maiden summit for Gender Desk Officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), held at the Corps’ National Headquarters, Abuja.

In a press statement signed by the Director Public relations DCC Olusola Odumosu on Friday. The Commandant General (CG), Dr Ahmed Abubakar Audi, mni, congratulated the desk officers on the attainment of a new height in the cause of their Public Service Career and called on participants to put the skills acquired during the training into professional practice.

Represented by the Assistant Commandant General, Administration, Dr Helen Amakiri, the CG noted with satisfaction that the summit had expanded the scope of Gender Desk Officers and tasked participants on building sustainable peace, through gender mainstreaming with a focus on Sexual and Gender Based violence (SGBV).

Specifically, the Summit had participants from sister agencies like the Armed Forces of Nigeria, Federal Road Safety Corps and Gender desk officers of the NSCDC, who were trained on how to prevent and respond to gender issues in line with global best practices.

Dr Audi charged the participants to attend to gender related complaints professionally as per the training acquired and equally extended his felicitations to them on the conferment of Associate membership of the International Academy, urging them to contribute significantly to global peace and stability and stressed that they must be passionate about their job.

According to him, the extension of the capacity building to members of sister security agencies was in a demonstration of NSCDC’s commitment to peaceful coexistence, synergy and collaboration among security agencies in the country, which must be sustained to create room for development.

The Commandant General appreciated the collaboration between the Corps and the International Academy for Gender and Peace under its President, Professor Tyoor Terhemba, which culminated in the successful training.

On his part, Prof Tyoor, commended the core competence of the Commandant General and expressed delight in the attention given to the training and capacity building of NSCDC officers which has resulted in successful implementation of the mandates of the Corps.

In his lecture which focused on Peace and Leadership, Prof Tyoor, underscored that the entire world needs peace and called on newly inducted members of the Academy as peace builders to contribute their quota to the management of issues relating to SGBV and Gender Mainstreaming.
