The Nigeria’s Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) Deep Blue Project is recharged to assist the country fight the smuggling of illicit drugs and narcotics into the country.
Director General of NIMASA, Dr Bashir Jamoh disclosed this at the just concluded JournalNG Port Industry Town Hall Meeting held in Lagos.
He stated that NIMASA has been doing a lot to breach easy access to drugs and other illegal substances through the sea.
“NIMASA is also making concerted efgorts through the Deep Blue mechanism to hunt down perceived drug peddlers that operate on sea,” Dr Jamoh said.
Dr Jamoh who was represented at the event by the Special Assistant on Communincation and Strategy, Mr. Ubon Essien, stated that NIMASA is not only making efforts to reduce the inflow of illicit drugs and narcotics into the country, but also engages on sensitisation of Nigerian youth on the dangers of drug use on lives and the society.
He praised the Chairman/Chief Executive of National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Gen Buba Marwa (rtd) for new zeel he has brought in the nation’s fight against influx illicit drugs and narcotics into the country.
According to him, NIMASA as an Agency of government is planning to collaborate with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in rehabilitating victims of drug use in Nigeria.
