The Secretary General of the Maritime Organisation of West and Central Africa (MOWCA), Dr. Paul Adalikwu, will be formally inducted as a Patron of the Association of Maritime Journalists of Nigeria (AMJON) during its 2024 annual conference.

The event, scheduled for Thursday at Rockview Hotel, Apapa, Lagos, will highlight Dr. Adalikwu’s exceptional contributions to maritime development in West and Central Africa. Elected in November 2021 for a four-year renewable term, Dr. Adalikwu has been credited with repositioning MOWCA as a regional powerhouse for marine and Blue Economy initiatives.

This year’s AMJON lecture, themed “Nigeria’s Maritime/Blue Economy Industry under the Renewed Hope Agenda: What is New,” aims to ignite national dialogue on the untapped $1.9 trillion Nigerian Blue Economy and the opportunities offered by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

The Honourable Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, will serve as the Special Guest of Honour, while Dr. Adalikwu will chair the event. Chief Tony Iju Nwabunike, Patron of AMJON, will preside over the induction of Dr. Adalikwu and deliver the keynote address.

The conference will also feature prominent maritime stakeholders, including, Barr. Pius Akutah, Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC). Bola Oyebamiji, Managing Director of the Nigerian Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA). Other CEOs and leaders within the maritime industry

The outgoing AMJON President, Paul Ogbuokiri, expressed confidence that the conference will foster collaborative dialogue among key players in the sector.

“Stakeholders and investors will gain insight into the opportunities and enabling environment created by the government to grow investments and secure tangible returns within the Blue Economy,” Ogbuokiri said.

The 2024 AMJON annual lecture will also feature. The installation of patrons and matrons. Presentation of awards to distinguished Nigerians

The inauguration of newly elected AMJON executives, led by Mr. Kelvin Kagbare, who will oversee the association’s affairs for the next three years

“This year’s event promises to be unique, bringing together influential voices to chart a new course for the maritime industry,” Ogbuokiri added.
