Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has assured the newly appointed Commissioner of Police, Baba Mohammed Azare, of the state government’s unwavering support to tackle crime and ensure peace and security across the state.

Governor Eno made the pledge during a courtesy visit by CP Azare to the Government House in Uyo, where he reiterated his administration’s commitment to maintaining a strong partnership with security agencies in Akwa Ibom.

Governor Eno expressed confidence in CP Azare’s capacity to lead the state’s police command, noting that his previous role as Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations) in Akwa Ibom has given him a good understanding of the state’s security landscape.

“The state government will continue to collaborate with the police and other security agencies to maintain peace and security in Akwa Ibom,” the governor said.

Governor Eno also highlighted ongoing efforts to improve community policing through the Ibom Community Watch initiative, which aims to deploy security operatives in every village to serve as the eyes and ears of the police.

“We are trying to ensure that every village has at least one security operative to help monitor government facilities, especially against the vandalization of public utilities like transformers. It costs the government a lot to replace vandalized transformers, which also hampers rural development,” the governor noted.

Congratulating CP Azare on his new posting, Governor Eno assured him of a collaborative relationship with the state government to ensure the safety of lives and property.

“I am ready to work with you, just as we did when you served as Deputy Commissioner. We look forward to continuing that symbiotic relationship between the government and the police in serving the good people of Akwa Ibom,” Governor Eno said.

In his remarks, CP Baba Mohammed Azare thanked the governor for his consistent support for security agencies and promised to collaborate with other security bodies to sustain peace and stability in the state.

“I appreciate the governor’s support for the police. We will continue to work with other security agencies to ensure Akwa Ibom remains one of the most peaceful states in Nigeria,” CP Azare assured.

The new police commissioner called for continued cooperation from residents in reporting criminal activities, saying proactive community engagement is key to maintaining law and order.
