The Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MWUN) and the management of Melsmore Marine Limited and have signed a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) aimed at enhancing workers’ welfare.

Following the agreement signed on Monday, the leadership of MWUN, led by Comrade Francis Bunu Abi, and the Melsmore workers, who are bonafide members of the Union, described the development as a landmark achievement for both parties.

According to a statement signed by Comrade John Kennedy, MWUN Head of Media, Comrade Bunu emphasised that no responsible industrial firm should neglect the welfare of its workers or the moral ethics of its operations.

He commended the management of Melsmore Marine Limited for its understanding of the dynamics of the maritme sector, noting that workers’ welfare remains essential for achieving optimal productivity.

The veteran sailor affirmed that the only way any industrial company can achieve optimum output is when the workers are happy, because their growth is also assured.

Comrade Bunu assured the management of a continued harmonious relationship within the maritme industry, disclosing that Melsmore has increased workers’ remuneration to a living wage, taking into consideration the current living standards of Nigerians.

The foremost Maritime Labour leader explained that the move was designed to uplift the morale and productivity of union members in the company’s employ.

He thanked the management of Melsmore for giving the union a listening ear, adding that this collaborative approach has resulted in a harmonious development which, he believes, will continue to flourish as both parties work together as partners in progress in the maritme sector.
