The federal lawmaker representing Etsako Federal Constituency at the National Assembly Hon. Anamero Dekeri has appointed former Senior Special Assistant to Governor Godwin Obaseki and immediate past Chief Press Secretary of Etsako East, Mr. Benjamin Atu, to manage the media and publicity unit in his office.
The appointment is expected to elicit feedback from the grassroots on developmental strides in their communities and to identify other areas needing urgent legislative intervention.
Hon. Sunday Anamero Dekeri confirmed the appointment, which he said takes effect immediately at the National Assembly.
Benjamin Atu a veteran broadcaster, boasts a rich and robust media and press-management resume. He was the Chief Press Secretary to Dr. Ngozi Olejeme, former Chairman of the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) and Trust Fund Pension PLC.; Senior Special Assistant to Governor Godwin Obaseki; and Spokesperson for the former Edo State Deputy Governor, Comrade Philip Shaibu.
He also served as Personal Assistant and spokesman to the immediate past senator who represented Edo North Senatorial District, Senator Francis Alimikhena, at the National Assembly, Abuja, for eight years. Atu was the immediate past Chief Press Secretary to the immediate past Executive Chairman of the Etsako East Local Government Council, Hon. (Princess) Benedicta Attoh.
Benjamin Atu served as Head of Media and Public Enlightenment at the Federal University of Petroleum Resources Effurun Centre for Sustainable Development (FUPRE-CSD). Until his recent appointment, Benjamin Atu was Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to Hon. Idahagbon Henry Williams Omoregie, a federal commissioner at the Federal Civil Service Commission.
Atu began his media career at the Delta Broadcasting Service, Asaba in 2004 as a news cameraman, reporter, film editor, TV and radio presenter, and producer of popular programmes including Government on the Move, The Man on the Street, Candid Issues, The Library, and the PEP Talk segment on PEP Show.
He is an alumnus of Delta State University, Abraka and the National Open University, Abuja, and holds a Master’s degree (M.Sc.) from the University of Benin (Uniben), Benin City, alongside other certificates in various fields of interest. He is currently a student in one of the higher institutions.
By this appointment, the veteran broadcaster is expected to bring his strong communication and analytical skills to the office, building relationships with journalists, creating and managing content, and developing and executing public-awareness campaigns, among other responsibilities.
