Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu extended warm Eid-el-Fitr greetings to Muslims in Lagos and across Nigeria for successfully completing this year’s Ramadan, a 30-day period of fasting, intense prayers, and spiritual reflection that ended with joyous celebrations. In a statement released Thursday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile, the governor expressed profound gratitude for the community’s unwavering dedication and sacrifices throughout the holy month.
Sanwo-Olu highlighted Ramadan’s central role as one of Islam’s five pillars, emphasizing its teachings on self-discipline through abstinence from worldly pleasures, unwavering commitment to prayer, and complete submission to Allah’s will as outlined in the Quran. He specifically praised the virtues exemplified during this time, such as extending help to the poor and vulnerable, expressing deep gratitude to Allah, and demonstrating compassion and generosity toward one another, and urged Muslims to carry these forward into daily life for a more harmonious society.
Reflecting on Lagos’s longstanding tradition of interfaith peace, the governor encouraged believers of all faiths to continue fostering unity and mutual respect, which he described as a model for the nation. He also made a fervent call for collective prayers, particularly as Nigeria approaches key democratic milestones, asking for divine wisdom and fairness for leaders, enduring peace across the land, and actions that promote justice, unity, and the common good.
Sanwo-Olu wished everyone “Eid Mubarak,” reaffirming his administration’s focus on spirituality, welfarism, and collaborative efforts to drive Lagos’s growth and contribute to Nigeria’s stability and progress.
