President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Dr Ibrahim Ida as Chairman of the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) and nominated seven new federal commissioners for the National Population Commission (NPC), pending confirmation by the National Assembly. The moves are part of efforts to fill existing vacancies and strengthen governance across key agencies.
Dr Ida, who holds a Master’s in Banking and Finance from the University of Ibadan (1983) and a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from the University of Abuja (2003), brings extensive public‑sector experience to the role. He previously served as Commissioner of Finance in Katsina State, a Permanent Secretary in the Federal Civil Service, and was elected to the Senate in 2017, representing Katsina Central.
The President’s NPC nominees, representing their respective states, are Kolawole Oladipupo Alabi (Ekiti), Nasiru Mu’azu (Zamfara), Usman Abubakar Tuggar (Bauchi), Dr Isaka Alada Yahaya (Kwara), Prof. Sadiq Isah Radda (Katsina), Suleiman Umar (Jigawa), and Chiso Abdullahi Dattijo (Sokoto). The new appointments are meant to complement existing commissioners and enhance the Commission’s capacity ahead of upcoming national population and demographic exercises.
In a related development, Tinubu has appointed Dr Yusuf Mohammed of Kano State as Chairman of the Federal Polytechnic, Kaltungo, to steer its academic and administrative affairs. The President also confirmed the appointment of Bala Mohammed Bello as Special Adviser on Political Economy. Bello holds a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and an MBA from Ahmadu Bello University and has previously served as Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria and as Executive Director (Corporate Services) at the Nigerian Export‑Import Bank.
The presidency expressed confidence that the appointees would contribute to advancing the administration’s economic, business‑regulatory, and educational policies, while improving service delivery and the welfare of Nigerians.
