The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has lauded the efforts of police officers and operatives of various security agencies for their robust support in ensuring security during the recently conducted elections in Bayelsa, Imo, and Kogi States. Commending the diligence and commitment displayed by security personnel, the IGP praised their efforts in overseeing a smooth electoral process, defying earlier anticipated challenges.

The electoral process in the aforementioned states unfolded seamlessly, thanks to the outstanding efforts of the security operatives in maintaining law and order.

Their vigilance significantly contributed to safeguarding the electoral process and ensuring the safety of citizens throughout the exercise.

However, the IGP noted isolated incidents that occurred during the elections. In response, the Electoral Offences Desk Officers, operating under the supervision of the Deputy Inspector-General of Police overseeing the Force Criminal Investigation Department, have been directed to initiate immediate investigations into these incidents.

Expressing gratitude to all participating security agencies for their invaluable support in securing the electoral process, the IGP urged officers to uphold the highest standards of professionalism and integrity. He emphasized the importance of adhering to guidelines, the rule of law, and standard operating procedures within their respective agencies to fortify Nigeria’s democratic institution with enhanced security.

This commendation and directive were communicated by ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer, Force Headquarters, Abuja, underscoring the importance of maintaining transparency and accountability in ensuring a secure and democratic electoral process in the country.
