The Isoko National Youth Assembly (INYA) has called for calm over plans by the Delta State Government to move the faculty of Management Science of the Delta State University of Science and Technology, Ozoro, to Orerokpe.

INYA also declared that the Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration has good intentions for the Ozoro University, and appealed to the people of Isoko Nation to support the governor’s efforts in boosting education in the state.

President of INYA, Comrade Eniwake Orogun, made the call after a visit to the Vice-Chancellor of the Delta State University, Ozoro, Prof. Jacob Oboreh, on Wednesday.

According to Orogun, the visit to Prof. Oboreh was part of ongoing consultation to douse the rising anger over the planned relocation of the faculty from Ozoro to Orerokpe in the Okpe Local Government Area of the state.

He said following the dialogue the INYA leadership had with the Vice-Chancellor and other top management of the institution, they were assured that the relocation of the faculty of management science would affect the size of the school.

“The Vice Chancellor informed us that His Excellency has good intentions for the university. The highlights from the nearly two hours meeting include: The faculty of management science (FMS), has 8 departments

“The admission quota of each of the 45 departments of the university is 50, whereas a few of the departments of FMS may occasionally be internally allocated some more numbers if other departments do not fully utilize their quota

“The relocation of this faculty will in no way shrink the size of the University in terms of numbers of students. 12 new science based programs have been designed to take off almost immediately which include electronic and telecommunications engineering, digital economy, cyber security, Data analytics, Information systems, nursing, public health etc.

“Three new faculties, namely, Basic Medical Sciences, health science, and pharmacy, have also been approved for takeoff by the governor. Several departments can be established in these new faculties, which have the capacity to further strengthen the student base of the institution.”

The INYA leadership, who also met with the Isoko North Council chairman, Hon. Christian Itire, noted that they have sufficient assurance that the Governor Oborevwori’s administration is committed to providing adequate resources for the university.

Comrade Orogun assured that INYA would continue to monitor and engage relevant stakeholders to ensure that all promises are kept and the people of Isoko Nation are not shortchanged in the current arrangement.

Present at the visit were the 1st and 2nd Vice Presidents of INYA, Comr. Ogege Moses and Comr. Asibeluo Orobosa; President, Ozoro Youth Assembly, Comr. Kesena Aguhevah and Chairman, NYCN, Isoko North Chapter, Comr. Johnson Vinyeze.
