The Association of Maritime Journalists of Nigeria (AMJON) has announced that its 2024 annual lecture and awards conference will hold on Tuesday, December 12, at 10:00 AM at the Rockview Hotel, Apapa, Lagos.

Themed “Nigeria’s Maritime/Blue Economy Industry under the Renewed Hope Agenda: What is New?”, the conference aims to explore the untapped potential of Nigeria’s Blue Economy, valued at an estimated $1.9 trillion. It will also highlight the impact of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and the establishment of the Marine and Blue Economy Ministry on the nation’s maritime sector.

Speaking about the event, outgoing AMJON President, Paul Ogbuokiri, said the lecture will provide stakeholders and investors with critical insights into government initiatives and the vast opportunities in the Blue Economy.

“Stakeholders will learn about the conducive environment created by the government for investments in the maritime sector, ensuring sustainable returns on investment (ROI). This event will serve as a platform for collaboration and dialogue to drive growth,” Ogbuokiri stated.

The Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Hon. Adegboyega Oyetola, will serve as the Special Guest of Honour and will be conferred with the title of Grand Patron of AMJON.

Other notable guests include Barr. Pius Akutah, Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers Council (NSC), Dr. Paul Adalikwu, Secretary General of MOWCA,

Maritime industry CEOs and key stakeholders, some of whom will be inducted as Patrons of AMJON.

According to the organizers, these inductions aim to strengthen AMJON’s capacity to contribute more effectively to nation-building and maritime development.

One of the event’s highlights will be the inauguration of AMJON’s newly elected executives, led by President-elect Kelvin Kagbare. Kagbare and his team will steer the association’s affairs for the next three years.

“This year’s annual lecture is unique because it combines thought-provoking discussions, installation of patrons and matrons, and recognition of deserving Nigerians through awards,” Ogbuokiri added.

The Patron of AMJON, Chief Tony Nwabunike, and other top stakeholders in the maritime industry are expected to lead discussions and chart a new course for the association.

The General Secretary of AMJON, Oluwasegun Oladipupo, called on all stakeholders to participate actively in the conference, which promises to be both informative and transformative for Nigeria’s maritime sector.
