The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has called on Christians across the country to remain vigilant against violence, even as it condemned the deadly attacks that disrupted Palm Sunday celebrations in Angwan Rukuba, Gari Ya Waye area of Jos North, Plateau State. In a statement by its President, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, CAN described the incident as a grievous distortion of a sacred day, when what should have been a time of worship and reflection turned into a scene of bloodshed.

According to the statement, armed assailants, reportedly operating in large numbers, infiltrated the civilian community wearing uniforms resembling those of security personnel before opening fire on defenceless residents, leaving men, women and children among the victims. Archbishop Okoh demanded the immediate arrest and prosecution of all those responsible, stressing that swift and decisive justice is critical to restoring public confidence and upholding the sanctity of human life.

The President also expressed alarm over the attackers’ use of military‑style uniforms, warning that such tactics erode trust in security institutions and must be thoroughly investigated. He urged security agencies to be more proactive in intelligence gathering and deployment to prevent further attacks. CAN advised Christians marking Holy Week and Easter celebrations to remain alert, collaborate closely with security operatives, and adopt practical safety measures to protect their churches, homes, and communities.
