TotalEnergies is ramping up a broad portfolio of upstream and liquefied natural gas (LNG) projects across Africa, betting on the continent as a primary engine of production growth through 2026 and beyond. The company’s African assets now account for about half of its operated global output and represent its largest area of exploration spending, with several projects moving into active execution and development.
In the Republic of Congo, TotalEnergies invested roughly $500 million in 2025 to drill additional wells at the Moho Nord field, aiming to add about 40,000 barrels per day of incremental production. The field already contributes approximately half of the country’s total oil output, reinforcing Congo’s role in the company’s near‑term growth plans.
In East Africa, Uganda’s Tilenga project is advancing toward first oil, supported by the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP), which will carry crude from Uganda’s oilfields to Tanzania’s port of Tanga. Together, the development is expected to unlock large‑scale production from Uganda’s oil reserves and strengthen regional energy infrastructure.
In Mozambique, TotalEnergies is working to restart its $20‑billion LNG project, with planned capacity of 13 million tonnes per annum (MMtpa). The project is widely seen as a cornerstone of the country’s gas monetization strategy and a major contributor to the country’s future export‑oriented hydrocarbon output.
The company is also pushing the frontier of exploration. In Namibia’s Orange Basin, TotalEnergies is targeting a final investment decision on the Venus discovery by late 2026, while in South Africa preparations are underway to drill Block 3B/4B, pending regulatory approvals.
Across its African operations, TotalEnergies is emphasizing gas monetization and emissions reduction, including zero routine flaring on several African fields and ongoing investments in gas‑to‑power and related infrastructure. The company says this mix of near‑term developments and long‑cycle exploration underpins Africa’s position as a central pillar of its global growth strategy.
