The Association of Maritime Journalists of Nigeria (AMJON) has announced that its second‑quarter conference will hold on Thursday, April 30, 2026, at Rockview Hotel, Apapa, Lagos.

Scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m., the event will run under the theme, “Attaining Port Efficiency in the Face of Emerging Technology.”

The conference aims to bring together key stakeholders from the public and private sectors for robust dialogue on improving port operations and unlocking Nigeria’s maritime and economic potential. It will serve as a platform to examine how emerging technologies are reshaping seaport efficiency, encourage knowledge exchange, and deepen collaboration across the industry.

Discussions will also tackle persistent challenges affecting major ports such as Warri, Calabar, and Port Harcourt, including infrastructure gaps, traffic bottlenecks, and operational inefficiencies.

In a statement signed by the Chairman of the Organising Committee, Raymond Tedunjaiye, AMJON was described as the leading body of maritime journalists drawn from print, electronic, and online media.

Tedunjaiye said the association’s conferences have consistently provided a credible forum for experts to deliberate on critical national issues connected to maritime development and broader economic growth.

He added that outcomes and recommendations from the April 30 event will be documented and forwarded to relevant government authorities for consideration and possible implementation.

Major agencies expected at the conference include the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Nigeria Police Force, maritime labour unions, and terminal operators.

Among the dignitaries are the Comptroller‑General of Customs, the Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority, the Director‑General of NIMASA, and senior officials from the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy, alongside port managers and industry captains.

A highlight of the conference will be an awards segment recognising individuals and organisations that have made outstanding contributions to the growth and development of the maritime sector.

Speaking on the importance of the event, AMJON President Vera Osokpo said the programme has been carefully designed to address pressing industry concerns.

She pointed to the expanding role of technology in port operations, even as infrastructural challenges such as poor road networks, limited rail connectivity, and unstable power supply continue to constrain performance.

Osokpo said discussions will focus on trade‑facilitation strategies that enhance efficiency without compromising security, as well as the adoption of automation, smart‑port technologies, and the digital transformation of port processes.

Reaffirming AMJON’s position as a key voice in Nigeria’s maritime and blue‑economy landscape, the association assured participants of high‑quality presentations, expert‑led discussions, and meaningful networking opportunities aimed at fostering partnerships and driving sustainable industry growth.
