The President‑General of the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN), Comrade Francis Bunu Abi, has joined Muslims in Nigeria and across the world in celebrating this year’s Sallah festival in honour of Prophet Mohammed (Peace be Upon Him). The seasoned maritime expert praised Muslim faithful in the country for their resilience, tolerance, and love for one another despite the wave of insecurity, violent crimes, and hardship engulfing the northern region and other parts of Nigeria.
The Ijaw‑born labour activist noted that, against all odds, Muslims remain convinced that nothing is impossible before Allah, the Merciful, whose benevolence humanity has always relied on—especially during these hard and critical times in the country’s history. He expressed deep pain and agony over the suffering of innocent and vulnerable Nigerians during this difficult period.
Bunu appreciated the Federal Government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for its total resolve to reposition the country and its genuine efforts to fight insecurity and inflation. He highlighted the President’s commitment to restoring stability and peace in troubled areas, praying that the spirit of Eid Mubarak will usher in the desired peace and bring about positive change for the people of Nigeria.
The MWUN President‑General further urged governments at all levels to address the plights of Nigerians and alleviate their living standards, which he said are well below average, so that life can be more meaningful for every person struggling to survive.
Bunu thanked Muslims across the country and encouraged them to continue living peacefully among all people. He reminded Nigerians that the Almighty God knows the end from the beginning, and that everyone must show love towards one another in keeping with the spirit of Eid Mubarak, while wishing every Nigerian a happy Sallah.
