The Oyo/Osun Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has intercepted smuggled goods worth ₦3.22 billion through intelligence-driven operations, while recording an 8% increase in revenue collection between March and May 2026. Acting Controller DC Wale Moses Adewole announced the seizures during a press briefing on June 18, 2026, highlighting successful anti-smuggling operations enabled by enhanced collaboration with sister security agencies and the Command’s dedicated officers.
Among the intercepted items were three pump-action rifles, leading to the arrest of three suspects under investigation. The Command also apprehended a suspect who impersonated Nigeria Customs Service officials to fraudulently recruit people for money, with investigations ongoing. The seizure list includes 1,537 bags of foreign parboil rice worth ₦286.85 million, 102 bales of used clothing worth ₦217.52 million, 56 sacks of used shoes worth ₦368.16 million, 1,105 used tyres worth ₦204.49 million, 1,769 wraps of cannabis sativa worth ₦167.66 million, 5,495 sachets and packs of Tramadol 250mg worth ₦844.99 million and ₦325.75 million, 604 kegs of Premium Motor Spirit totaling 15,100 liters worth ₦49.32 million, and 12 vehicles including Nissan Caravan, Mitsubishi Outlander, GMC, Toyota Corolla, and Fiat Tipper Truck totaling ₦468.73 million.
The total Duty Paid Value of all seizures reached ₦3,221,843,672. Adewole stated these interceptions safeguard the nation’s economy, protect local industries, enhance public safety, and frustrate economic saboteurs. The Command collected ₦28.50 billion in revenue between March and May 2026, representing an 8% increase compared to ₦26.23 billion generated during the same period in 2025. Adewole attributed this achievement to officers’ dedication, professionalism, and cooperation from compliant stakeholders and the trading community.
The Command presented Commendation Awards to officers who distinguished themselves through exemplary conduct and outstanding service delivery. Adewole said the awards recognize merit, encourage professionalism, and motivate workforce integrity and discipline. He thanked the Comptroller-General of Customs Bashir Adewale Adeniyi and the NCS Management Team for visionary leadership. Adewole also appreciated stakeholders, sister security agencies, business community members, and the media for their continued partnership. The Acting Controller assured the public that the Oyo/Osun Area Command remains resolute in combating smuggling, facilitating legitimate trade, protecting national security, and contributing to Nigeria’s economic growth and prosperity.
