The Obidient Movement has condemned what it described as a reckless and dangerous threat made against its leader, H.E. Mr. Peter Obi, by the National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr. Felix Morka.
The group expressed its displeasure over Morka’s comment during a recent interview on Arise TV, where he stated that “Peter Obi has crossed the line so many times, and he has what’s coming to him, and whatever he gets, he should manage it.”
In a statement signed by Dr. Yunusa Tanko on behalf of the movement, the group described Morka’s remark as a direct threat to Obi’s life and a dangerous signal of Nigeria’s drift into authoritarianism.
The statement reads:
“We view this as not only an attack on Mr. Peter Obi but also a reckless endorsement of violence by a spokesperson of the ruling party. Such comments are unbecoming of a government that swore to protect lives and uphold democratic principles.
“Mr. Peter Obi has remained committed to issue-based politics and has consistently offered practical solutions to Nigeria’s challenges. His recent New Year message was a message of hope, devoid of personal attacks or incitement. The question then is: What line did he cross?”
The movement raised critical questions demanding clarification from the APC which includes, What line did Mr. Peter Obi cross? Who drew this line, and on what authority? What specific statements or actions justify such an ominous threat? What exactly is “coming to him”?
The group reminded the government that the Nigerian Constitution guarantees every citizen the right to freedom of expression and protection of life.
The Obidient Movement warned that if any harm befalls Mr. Peter Obi, his family, or associates, the ruling APC and the Nigerian government would be held accountable.
“We categorically state that if any harm comes to Mr. Peter Obi, the Nigerian government and its agents will be held responsible. Nigerians and the international community must take note of this emerging pattern of repression,” the statement added.
The movement urged the security agencies to investigate Morka’s comments and called on the APC to caution its members against making statements that could further heat up the polity.
“The security services must not sweep this threat under the carpet. Mr. Morka must be made to explain his statement, and the ruling party should ensure its officials desist from actions capable of causing unrest. The government should foster a national discourse centered on ideas, not threats,” the statement concluded.
The Obidient Movement reaffirmed its support for Peter Obi and vowed not to be silenced, promising to continue the push for accountability, justice, and the protection of Nigeria’s democracy.
