In honour of his exceptional service and significant contributions to Delta State and Nigeria, former Tin Can Island Port Manager, Sylvester Othuke Egede, has been honoured with esteemed royal title of Iyasere of Igbide Kingdom.
The title bestows upon him the esteemed position of Traditional Prime Minister and second-highest-ranking figure in Igbide Kingdom, in Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta State
Egede, a prominent member of the American Society of Safety Professionals and a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport, noted that this honor comes at a crucial point in his life and career, as he prepares to retire from active service on December 5th, a milestone that also marks his 60th birthday.
The former Port Manager disclosed that he is set to release a memoir titled “Strategy is Everything” on December 12th, recounting his professional journey, the challenges encountered, and the strategic decisions that defined his career in port management.
This achievement marks a historic moment, as he becomes the first official in the history of the Nigerian Ports Authority to publish a personal memoir. According to him, his tenure at NPA is widely regarded as transformative, particularly for his strategic leadership in resolving the persistent gridlock on the Apapa Oshodi access route, a critical corridor to the nation’s busiest ports
Notably, Egede was recently honored as one of the 200 Most Outstanding Deltans in Delta State, as announced on August 29, 2025.
Throughout his career, he has garnered numerous accolades for his contributions to trade facilitation, accident prevention along the Lagos Ports corridor, and dismantling extortion cartels that had hindered the Apapa-Oshodi axis of Lagos port access road for 13 years.
Although previous federal government and Lagos State task forces had attempted to address the Apapa port traffic challenge, their efforts were thwarted by the persistence of extortionists and criminal elements. Ultimately, Egede’s strategies succeeded in resolving the long-standing issues.
