The Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) under the leadership of Comrade Francis Bunu Abi, the President – General of the Union has commended the managements of Orion Marine Services Limited and Seatransport Ltd, respectively over the unprecedented increment of salaries.

The Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria members,
who are employees of sailors of Orion and Seatransport increased wages after a review of the sailors salaries, given the compliance of the National Joint Industrial Council work book, the NJIC.

The total compliance of the NJIC was achieved by both managements of Orion and Seatransport and the leadership of the Union in good faith as putting the sailors welfare has always been the arrow head of Comrade Bunu’s administration since assuming PG of MWUN few months back after his landslide electoral victory.

However, while Comrade Bunu signed the NJIC agreements, the veteran Sailor, Maritime Expert and astute administrator commended both managements for having at heart the welfare of their various employees by putting smiles on their faces; stressing that its only when the workers are happy would employers record optimum satisfaction in the sector.

In a press release signed by MWUN Media head Comrade Kennedy Ikemefuna stated that both companies situated in Apapa, Lagos, have shown good examples of what good managements should look, while the pragmatic labour leader signed the NJIC documents.

The PG of the Union is calling on other companies in the Maritime sector to emulate Orion and Seatransport in paying worthy salaries as both Orion and Seatransport are not operating from the moon; therefore, they should be prepared to comply to avert the wrath of the Union; saying that such defaulting companies in the sector would be made known to the Nigerian Maritime and Safety Agency (NIMASA)
