The President-General of the Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MWUN), Comrade Francis Bunu, has expressed hope for a better 2026, describing Nigerians as resilient and dogged, while urging the Federal Government to urgently address the hardships faced by citizens.

In his New Year message, Bunu said Nigerians endured insecurity, economic hardship, unemployment, high cost of living, and transportation challenges throughout 2025, yet remained steadfast and weathered the storms of socio-economic pressure that ravaged the country.

According to him, Nigerians could not have survived the year without their resilience, endurance, hope, faith, comportment, and positive attributes, which he said have consistently helped them overcome turmoil, difficult situations, and national challenges.

The MWUN leader described Nigerians as one of the strongest people in the world, capable of surviving and achieving even in the most difficult atmosphere, urging them to continue to uphold these qualities.

Looking ahead to 2026, Bunu expressed optimism that the difficulties Nigerians passed through would turn into joy and success stories for individuals across the country in various manifestations.

He also called on the Federal Government to urgently look into the plights of Nigerians, noting that citizens have suffered years of deprivation and hardship.

Bunu said the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu must begin to reflect in the lives of Nigerians as the country sails into 2026, stressing that this remains the only way Nigerians can be compensated for the daily tears and struggles endured in diverse dimensions.

He further cautioned that Nigerians should not be taken for granted because of their ability to endure hardship, describing their resilience as a strength that must not be misunderstood.

The MWUN President-General also emphasised that Nigerians have no other country to call their own, calling on citizens to join hands in making it better in the years ahead.

He concluded by wishing Nigerians a prosperous and Happy New Year, anchored on peace, unity, faith, and improved quality of life.
