The Director‑General of the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership (NCSP), Joseph Tegbe, has underscored Nigeria’s growing role in shaping international rules on data access, use, and security at the inaugural assembly of the World Data Organization (WDO) in Beijing. The high‑level gathering, which brought together over 500 participants including government officials, multilateral agencies, and digital‑technology experts, marked a major step toward more coordinated global data governance and digital‑economy cooperation.

Tegbe, who attended the summit alongside the NCSP Head of International Relations, Ms. Judy Melifonwu, described Nigeria’s participation as a strategic move to position the country at the heart of global conversations on data policy and cross‑border data flows. The DG reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to active engagement in setting international standards that balance innovation, security, and inclusiveness in the digital space.

The assembly opened with a keynote address delivered on behalf of Chinese President Xi Jinping by Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang, who called for stronger global cooperation to harness data’s economic value while safeguarding privacy, security, and trust. For Nigeria, the event offers a platform to strengthen bilateral digital cooperation with China, deepen capacity in digital infrastructure and innovation, and open new avenues for investment and knowledge exchange within the global data economy.

By engaging with the newly established WDO, the NCSP is helping to align Nigeria’s national priorities with emerging global frameworks, ensuring that Nigerian institutions, businesses, and skilled professionals can benefit from evolving international data ecosystems and digital‑technology partnerships.
