Justice Maryann Anineh of the Federal Capital Territory High Court, Maitama, has revoked the bail of former Minister of Power, Saleh Mamman, and issued a bench warrant for his arrest after he failed to appear in court on Monday, 11 May 2026. The judge ruled that the trial for Mamman and seven co‑accused will proceed in his absence under Section 352(4) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA) 2015.
Mamman is standing trial before Justice Anineh on a nine‑count charge involving conspiracy, obtaining by false pretence, and intent to defraud, to the tune of N31,070,541,349.64. This is separate from the N33.8 billion money‑laundering case in which he was convicted on 7 May 2026 by Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court, Maitama. Since his conviction there, Mamman has reportedly been out of circulation and has not been seen in court.
At the May 11 hearing, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), led by prosecution counsel Rotimi Oyedepo, SAN, argued that Mamman had absented himself without justification and that his counsel had not provided any reason for his failure to appear, not only on that day but also during his earlier conviction. Oyedepo told the court he was not responsible for Mamman’s where‑abouts and asked the court to revoke his bail, issue a bench warrant, and summon the surety for the next adjourned date, while also requesting that the trial continue in Mamman’s absence.
Justice Anineh granted the prosecution’s application, formally revoking Mamman’s bail and issuing a bench warrant for his arrest. She directed that the case proceed in his absence and adjourned the matter to 14 May 2026 for the continuation of the trial.
