  1. Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has expressed profound grief over a deadly train accident in Agbor, Ika South Local Government Area, that killed four people and injured several others.

In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary Sir Festus Ahon, the Governor condolenced with the families of those who died and prayed for the quick recovery of victims undergoing treatment for injuries from the incident.

Oborevwori described the accident as heartbreaking and unfortunate, noting that the loss of lives represented a painful tragedy for affected families and the state overall.

He assured residents that the state government had rapidly mobilized relevant authorities to the accident site to provide victim assistance and ensure an effective emergency response.

The statement indicated that Governor Oborevwori immediately instructed the Commissioner for Special Duties, along with Chairmen of Ika South and Ika North-East Local Government Areas, to proceed to the scene and coordinate rescue operations.

The Governor also praised security agencies for their swift intervention, revealing that the Commissioner of Police was present at the scene and had deployed sufficient security personnel to protect passengers’ luggage and other valuable items in the train.

The statement further disclosed that injured individuals were rapidly evacuated to nearby hospitals for medical care, survivors without injuries were relocated to town, and deceased victims’ bodies were stored in the mortuary.

To support the evacuation process, buses were immediately dispatched to transport survivors and injured passengers from the scene.

Providing details on victims’ conditions, Chairman of Ika North-East Local Government Council Hon. Monday Odigwe revealed that 35 injured passengers were receiving medical care across three hospitals.

According to him, 13 victims are being treated at Central Hospital Agbor, 12 at General Hospital Owa-Oyibu, and 10 at General Hospital Owa-Alero.

Odigwe also stated that officials received assurances that efforts would be made to lift the train on Tuesday.

Governor Oborevwori prayed for the peaceful repose of those who lost their lives and for the strength of families to endure the irreparable loss.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to residents’ welfare and safety, assuring that the government would continue monitoring the situation and provide necessary support for hospital patients.
