Aniagwu: Oborevwori’s Achievements Too Visible to Be Discredited

Mr. Charles Aniagwu, Delta State Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, has insisted that the record of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration is too substantial to be undermined by political criticism.

Speaking on Sunday during an appearance on Arise News’ “The Morning Show,” Aniagwu responded to recent attacks on the government and commented on shifting political alliances as the 2027 elections approach.

He pointed to remarks by former Deputy Senate President, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, regarding Delta State’s savings with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), describing them as an indirect admission of the state’s sound financial management.

“If you check his statements, you will see where he acknowledged that we have saved a significant amount with the CBN. The fact that he mentioned it shows he recognises that our government has managed resources well,” Aniagwu said.

The commissioner emphasised that Delta State is not only solvent but also highly liquid, crediting Oborevwori’s careful handling of public funds.

“We didn’t become liquid by chance. It is because our governor is an extremely prudent manager of resources,” he stated.

Aniagwu also referenced the recent Delta State Economic and Investment Summit, where the governor pledged $100 million as a de-risking fund to attract investment. He said this move underscores the strength of the state’s economy and boosts investor confidence.

He revealed that the administration releases up to 40 per cent mobilisation funds for awarded projects, a practice he claimed is unmatched by any other state in Nigeria.

“This approach has allowed many projects to be completed on time, and some even ahead of schedule,” he noted.

While acknowledging the administration’s progress in road construction, Aniagwu stressed that the impact of the MORE Agenda extends across multiple sectors.

He highlighted the transformation of the state’s road network, noting that travel from Asaba through Ughelli to Warri on the federal corridor is now smooth and free of potholes, thanks to the Oborevwori administration’s efforts.

According to the commissioner, the government’s tangible achievements have left opponents with little room to accuse the governor of underperformance.

“His impact is bold and unmistakable. Critics know they cannot fault Oborevwori on performance. He has exceeded many expectations,” Aniagwu said.

He dismissed suggestions that recent political shifts could erode the governor’s support base, affirming that the administration remains dedicated to governance and public service.

Addressing Omo-Agege’s political tactics, Aniagwu suggested the former senator was seeking media attention through criticism. He argued that electoral success depends on preparation, track record and grassroots backing.

He recalled that Senator Ede Dafinone defeated Omo-Agege in the APC senatorial primary, attributing the outcome to Dafinone’s legislative record and strong grassroots support.

Aniagwu said the Oborevwori administration would not be distracted by claims that contradict reality.

“Our focus remains on governance,” he affirmed.

He also rejected the notion that political realignments in Delta had weakened the governor’s position, stating that the administration’s greatest strength lies in its grassroots achievements.

He cited the governor’s recent visits to communities and farms across the state, where residents reportedly gathered spontaneously to welcome him.

Aniagwu said the warm reception demonstrated public appreciation for the infrastructure being delivered.

“People are responding because they can see the development in their villages,” he said.

He concluded that the Oborevwori administration would continue to prioritise infrastructure, economic growth and opportunities for Deltans, rather than engaging in political mudslinging.
