The Nigeria Customs Service has confirmed a fire incident at the premises of its Western Marine Command in Apapa, Lagos.
The fire was detected at about 10:35 a.m. on Monday, September 28, 2026, after thick smoke was observed coming from the newly constructed conference hall and adjoining office areas.
Officers on duty immediately activated emergency response procedures and worked to contain the outbreak.
Personnel from the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service arrived at approximately 11:25 a.m. and successfully brought the fire under control.
A preliminary assessment indicated that some property and office equipment were damaged in the incident.
The Customs Service confirmed that no death or injury was recorded.
It also assured members of the public and stakeholders that the incident had not affected the core operations of the Western Marine Command, which continue as normal.
The Command has constituted a committee to investigate the immediate and underlying causes of the fire and recommend measures to prevent a recurrence.
It said additional steps would be taken to protect personnel, facilities and equipment across its formations.
The Command commended its officers and the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service for their prompt response and thanked stakeholders for their cooperation.
It reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining high standards of safety, security and operational efficiency.
