A University Don, Dr. Ademola Irinyemi has canvassed and highly recommended the deployment of productive technology like Drones and Artificial intelligence tools to boost research for environment, agriculture, social and economic growth.

The training was organised by the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Lagos State Council in collaboration with Federated Maritime media chapel, FMMC, a chapel in NUJ.

A Redeemer’s University Don said during a training programme as partners for Journalists and other stakeholders recently and centred on how to use technology driven by Artificial intelligence and Drones for better knowledge and reporting.

These technology tools, Dr. Irinyemi said, have reduced waste and improved productivity where effectively deployed.

According to the experts, the Economic Relevance of Artificial intelligence is for Research and appropriate Reporting.

He alluded that artificial intelligence is economically relevant because it improves productivity, reduces costs, supports innovation, creates opportunities, and enhances decision-making.

“Drones and AI, when combined, offer powerful tools for research and reporting.

They make it easier to collect evidence, analyze large data sets, and present findings clearly. But their value depends on responsible use.

As we embrace these technologies, we must remember that the goal is not just efficiency”.

“The goal is to use technology to produce better knowledge, better reporting, and better development outcomes”.

The importance of Ai in today’s world is unimaginable, insisting that it frees up human workers to focus on higher-level work such as analysis, planning, creativity, and decision-making.

For example, “In a research setting, AI can help process survey responses in minutes instead of hours. In a media setting, it can help organize interviews and transcripts. In business, it can speed up customer service and document management.

Cost Reduction

AI also reduces cost.

Organizations often spend money on labor, training, time, and correcting mistakes.

“Because AI systems can automate some tasks and improve accuracy, they reduce waste and save resources.

This matters for both small and large organizations. A small business can use AI tools to handle customer inquiries or social media content.

A large institution can use AI to manage data, detect fraud, or improve workflow.

In economic terms, lower costs can improve profit, expand access, and make services more affordable.

Innovation and New Opportunities

AI does not only improve existing work; it also creates new ways of working.

It supports innovation by helping people develop new products, new services, and new methods of research and communication.

This is why AI is increasingly important in sectors such as health, finance, education, agriculture, logistics, media, and public administration”.

The Media has benefited immensely from AI by quickening the production process.

In the past it took 24 hours to produce a Newspaper for publication, today, it’s a matter of minutes.

Journalists are also enjoying the advent of Ai and drones in covering tough assignments.

According to him,, many feared that there would be loss of jobs, that was outrightly debunked with these excerpts,

“Job Transformation

Many people worry that AI will take away jobs.

That concern is real, but the picture is more complex.

AI does replace some routine tasks, but it also transforms jobs and creates new roles.

For example, people now need skills in data analysis, AI supervision, digital reporting, prompt writing, content verification, drone operation, and tech-based field research.

So rather than eliminating human work entirely, AI is changing the kind of work people do.

The key is adaptation.

Those who learn to work with AI will be better positioned in the changing economy.

Better Decision-Making.

AI also improves decision-making.

It can analyze large amounts of data faster than humans and detect patterns that may not be obvious at first glance.

“This helps governments, businesses, researchers, and media professionals make more informed decisions.

Dr. Irinyemi said, Artificial Intelligence Means or AI, refers to the ability of machines or computer systems to perform tasks that usually require human intelligence. These tasks include learning from data, recognizing patterns, making predictions, understanding language, identifying images, and supporting decision-making.

AI is already around us” He said.
