It was not a usual occasion that could pass as an ordinary fun-seeking party, but a celebration of Culture, Colours and Cuisines by Isoko People from all walks of life in Lagos.
Apparently, to showcase what People of this ancient Clan in Delta State of South-South, Nigeria are capable of, Sons, Daughters, in-laws and well wishers gathered at the National Stadium Surulere Lagos at the weekend to the tell the world that a Clan like Isoko exists on this planet.
They came in different groups, Culture, Colours and custumes, accompanied by different dance groups to entertain in celebration of The Isoko Nation Day 2023 in Lagos.
Overwhelmed by the eye catching and memorable activities on display, President of the Isoko Development Union Lagos Branch Dr. Dan Ekere said,
“Isoko are peaceful people who are rooted in culture and cherish it so much. According to him, over time, Isoko people have contributed immensely to the development of Nigeria. They have also demonstrated their selflessness to all their neighbours in lagos and other states in Nigeria.
Dr. Ekere posited that the essence of Isoko Day is to show the world who the People truly are. “We are distinct people in Cuisine, marriages and respect for humanity.
Many prominent dignitaries that throng the venue also alluded to the distinct culture and custumes of Isoko people.
They insisted that for people to know and practice their cultural believes, shows the Clan would never go into extinction.
At the National Stadium, Surulere, the Isoko Nation Showcased their traditional cuisine ( banga soup and starch) they also recognised those that have achieved in various fields of life endeavours and presented them with awards.
The atmosphere was electric, the weather very clement as fund rising segment where people freely donated money for the building of Isoko civic Center in lagos. The Center when completed, will to an extent enable Isoko and non-Isokos get information about the Isoko people and their distinct way of life.
The Isoko Nation Day was agog amid glamour, funfair, and cultural display by the 19 Clans.
Also, it featured various activities such as the parade of different clans( who dress in colourful and elaborate Isoko costumes to represent each clan).
The occasion was revealing and as well as memorable.
