AMJON hails Comptroller General of Customs, Adeniyi’s election victory at WCO

The Association of Maritime Journalists of Nigeria (AMJON) has congratulated the Controller General of Nigeria Customs Service Bashir Adewale Adeniyi on his recent election as the Chairperson of the World Customs Organisation during its meeting in Brussels, Belgium.

The association in the letter signed by its President, Mr Kelvin Kagbara, described the CGC Adeniyi’s elevation to the prestigious position of the 187-member apex global Customs policy-making organisation, as ‘deserving’.
The letter reads in part: “We, the executives, Board of Trustees and entire members of the Association of Maritime Journalists of Nigeria (AMJON) send our warmest congratulations to you on your recent election as the Chairperson of the World Customs Organisation (WCO).

“Your deserving election is a testament to your two years of exceptional, purposeful, impactful and dedicated leadership to the Nigeria Customs Service.

“Indeed your election accentuates your outstanding achievements and visionary leadership as a career Customs officer who rose through the ranks, spent greater part of your career interfacing with the general public.

“Within this short time in office, you have facilitated trade, achieved astronomical revenue generation, improved staff welfare, and strengthened the country’s border security.

“Your commitment to modernising the Customs administration and enhancing maritime trade has earned you this global.

“As foremost maritime journalists association in Nigeria, AMJON, is proud to felicitate with you at this auspicious moment, as well as express our appreciation of your efforts in upscaling the image of the Nigeria Customs Service through your regular stakeholders engagement, and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) projects across Nigeria.
“By your election as the Chairperson of this 73 years old world apex Customs policy-making body, your expertise and experience will undoubtedly benefit the global Customs community.
“Your leadership will foster cooperation, modernization, and capacity building among member countries, ultimately enhancing international trade and economic development.
“Your tenure no doubt, will promote Nigeria’s interest and perspectives in global Customs discussions, enhance regional cooperation and integration, trade facilitation and foster knowledge sharing and capacity building among member countries.

“Your election is a proud moment for Nigeria and the maritime community, demonstrating renewal of global interest country.”

AMJON affirmed it’s confidence in the CGC Adeniyi’s led WCO inspiring positive change in Customs administration and drive progress in the Customs profession worldwide.

The association further appreciated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for his wisdom in appointing CGC Adeniyi about two years ago, praying that Mr President will grant him more in the Service to see his transformational strides in the NCS to a logical conclusion
