The Assistant Inspector‑General of Police in charge of the Maritime Police Command, AIG Okunade Ronke Nurat, FSI, MSPSP, has held a strategic courtesy visit with the Flag Officer Commanding, Western Naval Command, Rear Admiral A. A. Mustapha, to reinforce inter‑agency cooperation and strengthen maritime security in Nigeria. The meeting, held at the headquarters of the Western Naval Command in Lagos, focused on deepening coordination between the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigerian Navy within the country’s maritime domain.

AIG Okunade described the security of the maritime environment as a collective responsibility, emphasizing the need for sustained synergy between the two agencies. She acknowledged the Navy’s central role in securing Nigeria’s territorial waters, while highlighting the complementary mandate of the Maritime Police Command in maintaining law and order in inland waterways and coastal communities.

In his remarks, Rear Admiral A. A. Mustapha welcomed the delegation and commended AIG Okunade for her proactive stance toward partnership. He reaffirmed the Nigerian Navy’s continued commitment to collaborating with the Nigeria Police Force to address emerging maritime threats and safeguard national security.

The discussions identified priority areas for cooperation, including intensified joint patrol operations across Lagos waterways and adjoining creeks, the establishment of a unified response framework for maritime emergencies, and the strengthening of personnel capacity through joint training and exercises. The visit ended with the exchange of souvenirs and a renewed pledge by both Commands to deepen collaboration in the interest of national security and the protection of lives and property in Nigeria’s maritime space.
