The Lagos Waste Management Authority says it is taking wider steps to improve waste evacuation across the state, while working to strengthen infrastructure, operations, and environmental sanitation.
In a statement attributed to LAWMA’s Managing Director, Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, the agency said current challenges were partly linked to access issues at disposal sites, especially during the rainy season. He said immediate, medium-term, and long-term interventions are being implemented to improve service delivery.
LAWMA said its partner, ZoomLion Nigeria Limited, has started preliminary work to stabilise and reopen Road E at the Olusosun facility. The agency also said Transfer Loading Stations across Lagos have been resuscitated and optimised as a temporary measure to speed up waste evacuation.
The authority added that the state is supporting the acquisition of more waste collection vehicles for PSP operators, including the planned deployment of 100 CNG compactor trucks. It also said 10 new compactor trucks donated by the Lagos State Lottery and Gaming Board have already been deployed.
Gbadegesin said enforcement against indiscriminate dumping has been stepped up, alongside a newly constituted Waste Police initiative involving transport unions and community groups. He also said the government is exploring inter-state collaboration to ease pressure on existing disposal infrastructure.
According to LAWMA, its facilities received over 418,500 tonnes of waste in May 2026, while about 3,000 blackspots are being cleared daily. The agency said new Transfer Loading Stations under construction at Olusosun and Solous III are expected to divert up to 4,000 tonnes of waste daily to recycling and treatment facilities once completed.
LAWMA urged residents to patronise approved PSP operators, avoid illegal dumping, and support efforts to keep Lagos cleaner and healthier.
