President Bola Tinubu has appointed former Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose as Chairman of the Rural Electrification Agency Board, placing him at the centre of efforts to expand electricity access to rural communities across the country.

The appointment is part of a wider package of 26 new nominations spread across 10 federal agencies and commissions. Fayose will chair the REA board alongside two non-executive directors, Alhaji Ahmadu Abubakar and Engineer Ilyasu Ibrahim Makinta, while the agency’s Managing Director, Abba Abubakar Aliyu, and three executive directors remain on the board.

The move is one of the most notable changes in the latest federal board reshuffle and takes immediate effect. It gives Fayose a major role in a sector that is central to rural development, small business growth and energy access in underserved areas.

Other appointments in the same round include new leadership for the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission, the National Population Commission, Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading, the Nigeria Atomic Energy Commission, the National Centre for Agricultural Mechanisation, the Fiscal Responsibility Commission and the National Commission for Mass Literacy, Adult and Non-Formal Education.

The administration said the appointments are intended to strengthen key institutions and improve the delivery of government mandates across strategic sectors.
