Skyway Aviation Handling Company (SAHCO) Plc has cemented its position as a key player in Nigeria’s aviation sector by serving as the sole ground handling service provider during the commissioning of the newly built Gateway International Airport in Iperu, Ogun State, by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The formal opening of the airport marks a major step in expanding Nigeria’s air infrastructure and positioning Ogun State as a strategic hub for both passenger and cargo operations.
As the exclusive ground handler, SAHCO is responsible for ramp handling, passenger facilitation, cargo operations, and overall flight support at the airport. The appointment reinforces the company’s reputation for high‑quality service, strict safety standards, and operational reliability. Chairman Barr. Dr. Taiwo Afolabi (CON) described SAHCO’s role as a “landmark opportunity” and reiterated the company’s commitment to investing in modern equipment, skilled personnel, and innovative solutions to support the growth of Nigeria’s aviation industry.
He highlighted that the partnership with Allied Air, a leading Nigerian‑owned cargo airline, will enhance cargo handling at the airport’s modern warehouse complex, particularly for time‑sensitive and high‑value shipments in agriculture, manufacturing, and e‑commerce. With these capabilities, the Ogun State airport is expected to improve regional connectivity, stimulate trade, and attract new investment.
SAHCO’s role during the commissioning event ensured smooth operations across all ground activities, underscoring its preparedness to deliver seamless service at both new and existing airports. As Nigeria’s air transport sector continues to expand, SAHCO remains dedicated to driving operational excellence and strengthening the country’s aviation ecosystem.
