The 2026 Nigeria Union of Journalists Media Games will take place from October 5 to 9 at the Agege Stadium and the NUJ Secretariat in Alausa, Ikeja.
The Chairman of the Games Sports Committee, Ayo Ojedokun, announced this during a press conference at the NUJ Secretariat.
He said the event was organised to help journalists relax after the pressures of newsroom work, maintain physical fitness and promote camaraderie among media professionals.
The games will feature five-a-side football for male and female journalists, a 100-metre race and indoor competitions in chess, draughts, ayo, Scrabble and table tennis.
Ojedokun urged corporate organisations to support the event and take advantage of the platform to promote their products and services. He said more sponsors were welcome to partner with the organisers.
The press conference also featured the unveiling of the official logo and the draw for the football competition.
The Chairman of the NUJ Lagos Council, Adeleye Ajayi, said the media games had become a permanent feature of the council’s calendar.
Ajayi expressed the council’s enthusiasm about the event and commended Coca-Cola, Nestlé Foods, SFAX Group, Agege Local Government and Amuwo-Odofin Local Government for supporting the initiative.
He said the sponsors’ contributions would help promote the physical and mental well-being of journalists.
Participants also observed a minute of silence in honour of Alfred Odifa, a former Secretary of the NUJ Lagos Council, who died on Thursday morning.
