Hon Emakpor Odogu , the Executive Assistant to the Governor of Delta State on Community Development, in a Delta Broadcasting Service (DBS) TV Program, MORNING RIDE, points out some of the government’s plans in the first phase of Community Development plans.
“The Executive Governor, His Excellency, Rt. Hon (Elder) Sheriff Oborevwori is resolute on his administration’s promise on the M.O.R.E Agenda to the State”, Emakpor declares.
In a special Delta Broadcasting Service (DBS) TV Interview Program, MORNING RIDE, anchored by Vivian Nkechika, the indomitable Executive Assistant to the Executive Governor of Delta State on Community Development, Hon Emakpor Odogu, revealed to the audience on what the M.O.R.E. Agenda of the Executive Governor means to the people of Delta State. Hon Emakpor unequivocally explained that the M.O.R.E Agenda is basically a template of the Governor’s big dreams for the entire communities in the 25 Local Government Areas of the state and it’s citizenry.
He further emphasized on the acronym of the Governor’s M.O.R.E. Agenda as follows:
M..Meaningful Development
O.. Opportunities for all
R.. Realistic Reforms
E.. Enhanced Peace and Security.
This template is typical of the State Government’s plans to bring meaningful development to all the communities in the State and one thing that is pivotal in the scheme of things, is to interface with traditional rulers, community leaders, people’s representatives, at the grassroot levels. Putting this structure in place, Hon Emakpor asserted that these ” two ways” relationships engagement will bring to bear, a common front, where the government will appreciate and know exactly the needs of the people in order to avoid misplacement of priorities as well as stating that capable artisans from within the communities where projects are being executed, will be meaningfully engaged for economic enhancement and development.
Apart from creating more platforms for huge Opportunities for all , Governor Oborevwori’s administration is leaving no stone unturned, in the areas of very drastic and realistic reforms, enhanced Peace and Security for all deltans, as a continuation of his predecessor’s achievements, with the Delta communities in mind, Hon Emakpor emphasized.
The vast nature and needs of communities in Delta State places a high demand for a high calibre of gigantic Developmental projects and it takes an initiative of a leader with full capacity and commitments such as the uncommon Governor that we have, in the person of His Excellency, Rt Hon (Elder) Sheriff Oborevwori.
In the last tour of the three Senatorial districts, Emakpor stated that his team led by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Community Development Chief Anthony Ofoni had the opportunity to meet with the Royal Fathers, traditional leaders and community heads, to fine-tune some of the empowerment program plans different from what has been on ground. This includes but not limited to Training, distribution of starter packs and reabsorbing the trainees with community contract projects where applicable.
That’s the need for the engagement with the community to avoid misplacement, project conceptualization involvement of the capacity within the community.
The Community Development agency, being an Executive arm of the office of His Excellency is not a contract awarding agencies like the DLA, Ministry of works and such like, play the role of bridging the gap existing between the community and the local contractors. This is to ensure that the job needs of the people are identified and forwarded to His Excellency as input for His considerations
Our engagement with the community is to
create a friendly peaceful atmosphere to enable speedy and adequate project delivery. We ensure that we work in tandem with the project monitoring team for quality delivery, Emakpor stated.
So far, to ensure His Excellency keeps to his campaign promises on quality job delivery to the people and the entire Delta Communities, His Excellency recently awarded various roads and Bridge contracts to a well known Giant Company in the Construction Industry, JULIUS BERGER, which is an indication of promise kept for a “first phase take-off” projects to develop the communities.
Hon Emakpor revealed that the agency will always intervene, to ensure there is peace and security put in place, where there are challenges of community staged-crises by indigenes, to disrupt the efforts of government in developing the community, in the name of development fees “deve”, as this has been abolished by Government.
He further stated that Government will continue to train, retrain and empower the artisans groups, through skill acquisition instead of importing the so-called workmen from the neighboring countries for our local jobs. This administration will continue to discourage the sale of starter packs by trained artisans, by engaging them with our local contractors where applicable.
On the issues of abandoned projects that has become phenomenal, our role here is to ensure that the right calibre of contractors will be recommended going by their track records of high experience in their various fields of endeavors.
The Executive Assistant to the Governor concluded in summary that; community development is not just in the area of infrastructure but to make sure that the community feels the impact of the government in different aspects of human endeavor.
In summary, we are in the business of
interfacing and engaging with the communities at large and to report back to the Executive Governor, for effective Developmental plans to grow the entire state systematically.
