Indigenous gas and power portfolio company Axxela Limited has reaffirmed its strong commitment to worker safety while advancing broader strategies to align its operations with global environmental expectations. The commitment follows the company’s announcement that it has achieved 10 million Lost Time Injury (LTI)‑free manhours across its operations as of April 2026, a major milestone in its safety and operational performance.
The 10 million LTI‑free manhours represents millions of working hours completed across Axxela’s portfolio without a single lost‑time injury. The company attributes the achievement to robust environmental, health and safety systems, deliberate leadership focus, and a deeply embedded safety culture that spans all its operations in sub‑Saharan Africa.
Director of Corporate Operations, Tuoyo Ejueyitchie, said the milestone is more than a statistic and instead reflects the organisation’s core values. He stressed that at Axxela every worker is expected to return home safely at the end of the day and that the 10‑million manhour mark underlines the discipline, vigilance and collective responsibility that define the company’s day‑to‑day operations. He added that as Axxela expands its energy infrastructure across the region, the pursuit of a zero‑harm workplace remains non‑negotiable.
Head of Environmental, Health, Safety & Sustainability (EHSS), John Okoro, noted that the company’s EHS performance is anchored in internationally recognised management standards, continuous risk and hazard identification, and a proactive culture of incident prevention. He highlighted that Axxela encourages a strong reporting culture in which near misses are treated as learning opportunities, hazards are detected early, and all employees are empowered to stop unsafe acts. The 10 million LTI‑free manhours, he said, confirm the effectiveness of this approach and reinforce the company’s determination to reach an incident‑free workplace.
Axxela remains focused on sustaining a safety‑first culture, strengthening accountability, and driving continuous improvement across its operations. The achievement demonstrates the collective dedication, discipline and teamwork of staff at every level, from senior leadership to frontline teams, and underpins the company’s broader ambition to deliver reliable energy services while protecting people and the environment.
