The President of the Association of Maritime Journalists of Nigeria (AMJON), Vera Osokpo, has announced that the association’s 2026 Annual Conference will double as an awards ceremony for key figures in the maritime, logistics, and public‑service sectors. The conference, themed “Attaining Port Efficiency in the Face of Emerging Technology,” will hold on Thursday, April 30, 2026, at the Rockview Hotel, Apapa, Lagos, starting at 10:00 a.m.

The event will bring together stakeholders from the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Nigeria Police Force, maritime labour unions, terminal operators, and the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy to discuss the role of emerging technologies in improving port operations and maritime governance.

Among those to be honoured are CSC Abdullahi‑Lagos Abiola, Public Relations Officer at the Nigeria Customs Service, Lagos Free Trade Zone Command; Her Excellency Ambassador Dr Prevail Farid Ahmed, entrepreneur, humanitarian, and global advocate for peace and unity; and Dr Festus Nwiue, a respected maritime economist and port consultant with extensive experience in logistics and port operations. The awards are intended to recognise their exceptional contributions to port efficiency, maritime development, and national economic growth.

The conference will feature panel discussions, paper presentations, and interactive sessions on digitalisation, automation, and the application of new technologies in the port and blue economy sectors. AMJON reaffirmed its commitment to upholding high professional standards in maritime journalism and to using the annual conference as a platform for shaping policy dialogue and driving the sustainable growth of Nigeria’s marine and blue economy.
