NLNG has honoured Professor Bart Nnaji for his long-standing contribution to the credibility, governance and global reach of The Nigeria Prize for Science and Innovation. The tribute came at a colloquium marking his 70th birthday, where the company reflected on his role in shaping the prize since its early years.
NLNG said Prof. Nnaji has been involved with the initiative since its launch in 2004, when he delivered the keynote address at its inaugural grand award night in Abuja. His early advocacy helped position the prize as a platform for promoting science and technology as tools for national development.
The company said his influence went beyond public support, noting that he also played a key role in a 2013 stakeholder review that strengthened the prize’s governance and administration. In 2022, he was appointed chairman of the advisory board, where he has continued to support the prize’s international profile and engagement with leading scientists and researchers.
NLNG described him as one of the prize’s earliest champions and a valued member of its institutional history. It said his leadership, intellectual guidance and sustained advocacy helped build stakeholder confidence and expand the award’s relevance.
The Nigeria Prize for Science and Innovation, established in 2004 and sponsored by NLNG, recognises scientists and innovators whose work offers practical solutions to major challenges in Nigeria. The competition is open to entries from around the world.
