Federal lawmakers in both the Senate and the House of Representatives in Nigeria plan to spend more than N139billion in the year 2022.

Point News247 reports that the findings were revealed in a post by a data consulting agency, Statisense on its Twitter page.

Nigerian Senate
Checks by SaharaReporters showed that Statisense picked the data from the Budget Office.

In the figures released, N100billion was earmarked for zonal interventions, while National Assembly liabilities to gulp N10billion.

In the data, the National Assembly library building will consume N5billion and the lawmakers are billed to spend N1billion on Constitution Review.

Other projected expenses are National Assembly e-library with N300 million and National Assembly dashboard with N139 million.

Also, it is expected that the National Assembly members will host their counterparts from African countries in what it termed as Conference of Speakers of African Parliament (CoSAP) as revealed in the data.

While the date for CoSAP was not disclosed, N150 million was earmarked for the hosting of the event.

Recall that SaharaReporters had published last week how President Muhammadu Buhari lamented some worrisome changes made by the National Assembly on 2022 Budget he signed into law.

Buhari mentioned N36.59billion was included by the extravagant lawmakers for their projects in the Service Wide Vote.

The President had said, “It is in this regard that I must express my reservations about many of the changes that the national assembly has made to the 2022 executive budget proposal.

“Some of the worrisome changes are as follows: Inclusion of new provisions totalling N36.59 billion for National Assembly’s projects in the Service Wide Vote which negates the principles of separation of Powers and financial autonomy of the legislative arm of government.”
