With the trending reports on social media by an online newspaper alleging that the Delta state government paid the sum of N78 billion as upfront to a construction company, Julius Berger, for three projects which include three flyovers and road expansion projects in some parts of the state, the executive assistant to the state governor on Communication and Orientation, Dr. Wilfred Latimore Oghenesivbe, has come out to officially debunk the news as fake and a mere work of propaganda.
In a statement made available to newsmen, Dr. Oghenesivbe warned that disgruntled persons would make an effort to thwart the meaningful developments especially in infrastructure of Governor Oborevwori to discredit his government and do a lot of damage by means of cheap propaganda.
He stated categorically that Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff F.O. Oborevwori, had recently disclosed details of ongoing projects at Ika North East local government area of the state, that the project contractors, Julius Berger, had been mobilized with 25% of the total contract sum and all preliminary works for the project are presently being carried out and the projects would take place between November and early December.
Dr. Oghenesivbe, further spoke on the legal status of the construction company, Julius Berger as a corporate citizen of Nigeria, hence the choice of the company to execute the projects across the three senatorial area of the state. He said it was preposterous to think and actually vocalize that the state government through the governor, would pay a lump sum of the project cost of N78 billion to the contractor before carrying out all the expected projects.
