Senator Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North senatorial district, has formally resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), ending his 26-year association with the party. In a letter dated January 30, 2025, Senator Nwoko cited deep divisions and factionalization within the party as reasons for his departure.
According to reports, top party functionaries engaged in physical altercations on January 29, 2025, highlighting the irreconcilable factions within the party. Senator Nwoko expressed gratitude to the PDP for the platform to contest the 2022/2023 senatorial election but noted that the party’s current structure hindered his ability to fulfill campaign promises.
While bidding farewell to the PDP, Senator Nwoko assured his constituents of his unwavering dedication to statesmanship, unity, and advancement of Delta North. He has also been linked to a potential defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC), although this has not been officially confirmed.
