Osun state police has arrested a man identified as Opeyemi Olufemi who burgled the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) and stole over N620,000 church offering inside a box including prayer requests papers.
According to the police,the suspect, Olufemi, was said to have broken the offering box inside the Church located at Ikeji, Arakeji in Osun State and had already succeeded as he was escaping with the prayer requests papers kept inside the box with the money.
However, the suspect while riding on a motorcycle with a school bag, he was intercepted by Policemen on stop and search duties along Igbara Odo/Akure Road on routine search.
When the Police on duty searched his bag, there were different denominations of Naira notes amounting to N620,115, while papers with prayer requests were also found in the bag.
This spur serious suspicion and the Police asked him to disclose the source of the money or give an accurate account of the total amount of money found in his bag. But he was unable to do so because he did not count the money.
He was consequently arrested and detained at the station for interrogation.
During interrogation, he confessed to have stolen the money from the church offering vault and was escaping when he was caught.
According to the Police, the suspect will be charged to Court for burglary and stealing.
