The Labour Party leader and 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has called on the newly elected leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide to prioritize peace, unity, and national development in their tenure.
Obi made this charge in a congratulatory message shared on his official X handle, where he commended the new executive led by Senator John Azuta Mbata, describing their election as a reflection of the trust reposed in them by the Igbo people.
“On behalf of my family and the Obedient Movement, I congratulate the newly elected President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Senator John Azuta Mbata; the Deputy President General, Prince Okey Nwadinobi; the Secretary-General, Emeka Sibeudu, and other executive members on their emergence as leaders of this noble organization,” Obi wrote.
He highlighted the significance of Ohanaeze Ndigbo as the unifying body of the Igbo people, urging the new leadership to leverage their positions to foster unity, promote peace, and drive development across Nigeria.
“Their emergence underscores the confidence and hope the people have in their leadership ability and their commitment to the development of the region and the nation. I pray they will use their offices to work tirelessly for the peace and unity of our nation,” Obi added.
Obi expressed optimism about the role of the new Ohanaeze leadership in contributing to national discourse, promoting cultural values, and advocating for policies that would enhance the welfare of the Igbo people and Nigerians at large.
“May God give you all the wisdom and strength to serve the people. A new Nigeria remains possible,” Obi concluded.
In his statement, POMR spokesperson Ibrahim Umar reiterated that Obi’s message reflects his continued commitment to advocating for a peaceful and united Nigeria, with every ethnic group contributing to the nation’s progress.
