Customs Score Card: Apapa Area Command Records Seizure Of Drugs, Goods Worth N7.8bn
In a renewed effort to stem the influx of contraband goods, the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has mobilized its agents to man borders and ensure illegal trading is reduced to the barest minimum. To this end, the Apapa Area Command has recorded a seizure of 97 containers with a Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N7.8 billion between January and November. Air Peace, Nigeria’s foremost airline, has begun scheduled flights into Anambra on Tuesday. Point News247 reports that Mr Stanley Olisa, Spokesman to the airline, confirmed the development in a statement issued in Lagos on Sunday. Olisa stated that the commencement followed approval of the Anambra International Cargo and Passenger Airport by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, of Lagos State says the death of some students of Ojodu Grammar School who were crushed by a truck driver on Tuesday, has left him devastated. The Nigerian Government has confirmed that some vaccines donated by foreign nations, health bodies and other international organizations to Nigeria have expired in its shelves. The government however said the long term measure to prevent such incident is for Nigeria to produce its own vaccines, so that vaccines produced have at least 12 months to expiration. The family of late 12-old Sylvester Oromoni, a student of Dowen College, has hired the firm of human rights lawyer and activist, Femi Falana, to prosecute the case against the institution over the unfortunate death of their son. A fatal car accident along the University of Ilorin (Unilorin) road has led to the death of at least two people. Point News247 reports that several others were injured in the accident. An eyewitness who pleaded anonymity said, “A private car (alleged to be overspeeding) hit a korope.” “Some of the passengers suffered broken bones and fractures, Terrible injuries.” The accident was said to have occurred along the Veterinary Medicine/Quarters Bustop and the Unilorin dam. The driver of the Korope and a woman in the vehicle have been reported dead. The number of casualties have not been officially confirmed.
